Welcome to NAMI Montgomery County!

Mental Illness Awareness Week

In 1990 the U.S. Congress declared the first full week of October as Mental Illness Awareness Week (MIAW). This year the week is October 4-10. To celebrate MIAW, every year our affiliate donates to community libraries. The funds are from our Greater Philadelphia NAMIWalk. The donations ($500 each) are to purchase books/videotapes/magazine subscriptions on mental illness. This is in an effort to educate the public, to raise awareness and to fight stigma.

This year, in addition to the donations, we will also hold “Lunch and Learns” at several of our libraries. Please join us at the library near you. A pizza lunch will be provided along with a 30 minute presentation on an important mental health topic from noon to 1 PM.

Monday, October 5 — Lansdale Library
Trauma—Bob Slewinski, M.A.

Wednesday October 7 — Norristown Library
What is Mental Illness—Ask Dr. Nell

Thursday October 8 — Pottstown Library
Metabolic Syndrome—Bob Slewinski, M.A.

These events are free and open to the public. To RSVP call our office —215-361-7784 — by October 2nd.
